Ellisipyth La'Craine (/ɛlɪsɪpɪθ lɑ'kreɪn/ EL-lih-SIP-pith LA-cray-n; born December 21 2004), is an American musician and the youngest child of the La'Craine family.[1][2][3] She is the current Ultimate String Instrument Player at Hope's Peak University, and is the 4th holder of the title.[4][5]
La'Craine was born to Kaidennce and Dahlia La'Craine in Hartford, Connecticut.[1][3] Although La'Craine was the third child, her birth was still met with high publicity, especially from members of the business Queue4You and its parent company, Plume.[1][6][7] Despite the publicity and attention surrounding her birth and childhood, however, very little is remarkable about La'Craine's childhood.[1][8]
La'Craine's father, Kaidennce La'Craine, owner of Queue4You in the United States, was considered for the position as the Ultimate Businessman for Class 93 at Hope's Peak University.[3][9] While he did not ultimately meet the invitation requirements, Kaidennce La'Craine used the publicity in his youth to launch the company "Queue4You" and was met with wild success.[3][10] Kaidennce La'Craine's company was bought by Plume in 2010 as an acquisition deal and has since expanded its services and notoriety.[3][11][12]
Aside from being the daughter of Kaidennce La'Craine, La'Craine is also the younger sister of Anthony Moore, the former Ultimate Comedian, and Madilynne La'Craine, a graduate Reserve Course student of Hope's Peak University.[1][3][4] While never directly referenced in his performances, Moore is repeatedly recorded to have referenced La'Craine and her sister in his anecdotes and stand up, and has spoken about how proud he is of her journey as a musician.[13][14] While there were rumors of La'Craine joining Moore on stage for a performance, they have not been confirmed since their origin in 2021.[15][16]
Unfortunately, in 2018, when she was fourteen, La'Craine's mother died in a house fire.[1][17] The exact details of her passing are not shared with the public, though Moore has mentioned that La'Craine was present at the time of the incident.[18] Shortly after the funeral, the La'Craine family requested privacy regarding the event and moved to the small town of Birch Creek, Maine.[1][3]
After moving to Birch Creek, La'Craine transferred to the local private school Haven Academy to continue her education.[1] While La'Craine had an introduction to string instruments prior to her transfer, she reportedly began to focus on them with an "unrivaled intensity", as the local music teacher said.[19]
In one event, La'Craine was able to play the entire soundtrack for the school's production of Sweeney Todd on a variety of string instruments after the sound system broke hours before. La'Craine herself is claimed to have been unfamiliar with the soundtrack prior to being asked to perform, but viewers of the show boast that the music was the highlight of the performance, not the acting. La'Craine was heavily involved in her school's orchestral and music club, and would be known to be able to perform concert-quality pieces at the drop of a hat with a talent that "[You] would only ever see once in a hundred years", as an anonymous fellow classmate was known to have said.[20][21]
In addition to her involvement in school activities, La'Craine was also involved heavily in international competitions shortly after her debut as a musician.[1][21] In 2019, La'Craine won the International Karol Lipiński and Henryk Wieniawski Young Violin Player Competition in Lublin, Poland, the Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition in Czechia, and the Primrose International Viola Competition in Los Angeles, California.[21] Also that year, she recorded on the American Label "Modern Classical" to mild success.[21][22] In December that year, as a part of the Tchaikovsky Competition opening concert, she recorded again with the orchestra as the first chair violinist.[21][23]
In the following years, La'Craine won the International Carl Flesch Competition, the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists, and the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition.[1][21] She is also known for her repeated successes at the Montreal International Violin Competition, winning three consecutive years before graduating high school.[1][21][24][25] Her success in competition led to an offered recording contract with Swiss record label Teldeco, a position as an artist-in-resident with the Armenian State Symphony, and a guest speaker at Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland (IMMA) and at the Royal College of Music, London.[1][21][26][27][28][29]
While in the middle of performing Violin Sonata No. 9 at the Montreal International Violin Competition, her violin's third string snapped due to the intensity of her performance as well as the technical difficulty of the sonata itself. Despite that, La'Craine managed to finish the last fifteen minutes of the piece near-flawlessly by compensating with her own improvisations, and even performed an encore with the same violin after the fact.[21][30] After this feat, she was granted the title of Ultimate String-Instrument player, and invited to Hope's Peak.[1][3][4] La'Craine is now in her 1st year at Hope's Peak University as of October 1st.[3][4]
